New running buddy

I think I may have a new running buddy.

But first, a few apologies for previous running buddies:

Sorry Michelle, for never getting up with you in the morning to run. This running buddy wakes me up at 5:30 every morning by whining.

Sorry Sara, that I didn't go running with you in 40 degree weather. But this running buddy also feels my "fair-weather" sentiments and doesn't like to run in the rain, cold, heat or snow either (At least I hope).

Sorry WHS cross country and WHS and ONU track teams, for never being able to keep up with you in practice. This new running buddy forces me to run faster. Something no one previously was able to do.

Sorry Kody, for never wanting to run with you. You just run too fast.

I know I haven't always been the best running buddy for you guys, but now I think I've found the perfect one that will force me to be a good running buddy.

While Noodles does have his problems while running…such as stopping to sniff, stopping to pee, stopping to poop and running away…I've taken him running twice now and it's been awesome!

I previously thought that since he was still a puppy he wouldn't be able to make it very far. But boy was I wrong.

The first running date we had, he did great the first half of the run! Sort of running beside me. Okay, zigzagging millions of times in front and in back of me. However, problems came about three blocks away from home, when he started jumping on my back, turning around and trying to run home. It's like he's afraid of being too far from home. He's done this before on walks, so I was expecting it. I tugged, or dragged, him along for a bit and he got over it and loved the rest of our time outside. Granted, he did attempt to sprint the entire way home from the park we ran to. Homesick, I guess.

Our second date included running on the path behind Kody's parents' house. It was a little bit of a tortoise and the hare situation. I was able to let Noodles off his leash for a lot of the run. This led to a sprint ahead, stop and sniff, sprint ahead, stop and sniff style run for the pup. Meanwhile, I just trucked along slowly. Unfortunately, in this story, the hare definitely won. I put him back on his leash at the end of the run and away we went, sprinting back home. I thought I would have made him a tiny bit tired after running two straight miles (we ran 3/4 a mile, rested at a park and ran back on our first run), but he was still game for wrestling with a neighbor's dog for about a half hour after our date.

I'm just glad to have a running buddy again. One that is always eager to be outside, get up early and run fast.

But one question. Any suggestions on how to train a dog to stop and look both ways before crossing a street!?
